It's the most wonderful (expensive) time of the year...

It's that time of year again that makes retailers ring their cash registers in delight. Christmas. It's the time of year where society thinks that unless you spend large amounts of money (or credit) on presents on people you don't really like them. Where stores are overflowing with tacky Christmas decorations, or piped through tinny Christmas Carols.

I like the idea of spending Christmas with people you care about. That's good, that's what I think Christmas is for. What I don't believe it's for is to make people rich, make other people feel bad, or to have to spend it with people you don't like because it's 'Christmas'.

I'm not quite sure when I got disenfranchised with Christmas. It could have been around the time you find out about Santa, but I don't really think that's what it was. I think it's when I found out how commercialised the whole silly season is.

Personally, I'm thinking Christmas should be spent with people you care about, and not about how much money you can spend on the event.
